“A Night at the Theatre”
July 31st – August 10th, Gryphon Theatre
For the first time in many years, we’re bringing you an exciting lineup of one-act plays – including two plays written by New Zealand playwrights.
|Black Comedy||Service, Please!||Drawing from Life|
|directed by Neil Haydon and Oliver Mander||directed by Cameron Lines||directed by Cameron Lines|
Black Comedy is a farce, featuring a reversed lighting set: when the lights are ‘on’, we see nothing but darkness; when they are ‘off’, we see the characters behaving as if they were in a black-out. Brindsley, a sculptor, has invited a millionaire to see his work…a short circuit wrecks the evening.
Service Please! and Drawing from Life are original scripts by New Zealand authors. Service Please! sets out a “slice of life” within a busy hospitality business, while Drawing from Life examines the relationships of the participants in an art class. Wellington Repertory is proud to support both shows to showcase NZ authors and their work.
